Morocco - Rabat - Day 2

After a great nights sleep in very comfy beds at Jeffrey and Liangs' place, we had a gorgeous healthy breakfast, then Liang took us on some more sightseeing.  Unfortunately Jeffrey had to work, but we understood.  First, we were taken to the Casbah - the old walled city, which stands atop the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the Bou Regreg River, as it has for centuries.  It was built during the reign of the Almohads

Looking over to Sale, and where we were the night before photographing the fishing boats....

Looking upriver.  For some reason there were hundreds of birds flying around...
All the walls around the casbah were painting blue and white...

Little narrow alleyways everywhere...
Someone adding originality and style to their wall in the form of a handprint....

Looking over the River to Sale on the other side - Rabats sister city.  Atlantic Ocean on the left.

And to the beach.  Not sure about swimming here - still didn't look particularly clean!

 The Casbah walls...

We then headed over the road to Rabats Medina.  Unfortuantely it was Friday, the holiest day of the week, and many of the shops were closed.  But what we did see was excellent.  Liang showed us places where people were doing traditional moroccan art (revival), of the highest quality.  If we only had room in our luggage....  This is a shot of the Medina...
I found my leather cushions I was after in here - I still need 4 more, and was hoping to get them in Meknes or Fez but no luck - will just have to come back!!!

After buying cushions, we were treated to Mint tea - and true Moroccan hospitality....

Liang had to work for the rest of the day, so Anne and I spent the time in the sun by the pool relaxing and having a real 'holiday'.  One of the nicest afternoons we've had.
