Sicily - Tindarys and Palermo

Another beautiful blue sky day and we sunned ourselves on the deck at breakfast with this amazing view. Our Airbnb was at Santa Margherita.

Our host (the same in the previous night - he owned two airbnbs) suggested we drive to Tindarys before heading to Palermo and thats what we did. Tindary's is at the top of a hill

Past the square was an archaeological area - with an old roman theater ...

Excavations have found some interesting artefacts incluidng glass urns dati9ng to the 2nd century AD ..

And some beautiful headless Roman headless statues. This one was obviously too hot to handle and came with her own fire extinguisher..

The ancient temple frames the newer cathedral perfectly...

On the way back to the car, expansive views of the area...

Onwards to Palermo. One of Sicily's biggest cities. We parked the car in front of our Airbnb in a safe area, free 24/hour parking, emptied the car of the luggage into our apartment. Our host then made recommendations and we started warlking around the city.

One of the very old arabic churches. There was a wedding in progress but we snuck our head in and took some photos...

Just around the corner, this came into view - a beautiful founatin and behind an old palace..

Finally in the main street of Palermo - this building was the same on all four corners of the street and looked very impressive.

We were actually hurrying to get to the Grand Theatre - Teatro Massimo, the biggest theater / oper

Although we did eventually find the theater, but unfortunately it was closed ...

We then found the Cathedral ...

and then the palace ...

I was pretty tired by this time - and it was hot, so we DECIDED to walk back to the apartment and have a drink. On the way back we stumbled across a very hip area full of street art and street food.

We ordered the swordfish in EGGP

It was quite late When we got in, foot weary for sure. We made plans to get up early and see a couple of sights

Here's a pano made on my phone of the Cathedral to give you an idea of size ...
