London to Santorini

We had an early start  - up at 5am, taxi was at the door at 5.20am to take us to the airport, then from Clapham Junction, we caught the train to the Airport.  I’m still in a bit of a daze at how organised the transport all is.  A short walk from the train we entered the terminal.  A few moving sidewalks later, we then came to a ‘blank wall’ which was actually a shuttle.  The walls opened, onto the shuttle to the next terminal – felt very futuristic.  Through security then a walk to our gate – then we were loaded in a bus that took us to our plane.  I’ve never been in a bus that had to give way to a plane or two before!!

We arrived at the plane at 7.15am for a 7.25 take off.  However, Santorini had air strikes yesterday and there was a backlog.  So we spent 5 hours eating, sleeping and learning to fly the plane...

We had been looking forward to spending the afternoon at the hotel pool, however we arrived to late for that, getting in at 6.00pm instead of 1.00 pm. We went through customs very quickly, and the owners of the hostel (Dina's Place) picked us up from the airport. Dropped our bags at our gorgeous room right off the swimming pool. Was handed a glass of local wine each, then it was up into Fira (just over the road), to explore the alleyways of Fira and see the sunset. Absolutely stunning....

We had dinner at a beautiful Greek restaurant - Anne had the Calimari, I the moussaki and Jay the fresh sardines. They finished the meal with a shot of Lemoncillo (frozen). Stopped me coughing for about 2 hours!! I must drink more of it!

I am loving Santorini so far!

  2. Bit rough when you have to fly your own transport. What are the dodgy looking postit notes on the controls?

    Your meal sounds yummy.

  3. Now that you have a plane and can fly you can give me free flights between Auckland and Blenheim when you get home. Yay!
